Centennial College students launch the largest issue to date of
community magazine, ON the DANFORTH.

Toronto, Ontario — On Wednesday March 18th, the Book & Magazine Publishing students at The Centre for Creative Communications, Centennial College, launched the 2009 issues of ON the DANFORTH magazine at the well-known Danforth establishment, Myth Restaurant and Lounge. Unique to this year’s event, a silent auction was held with proceeds going to the national literacy organization, Frontier College. Featured bid items included wine from Hemisphere’s Wine Club, new release books from Random House Canada and John Wiley & Sons, Inc., a beauty basket from Elevate Magazine, and much more. Over 150 people attended the event, ranging from Danforth area business owners, to publishing professionals, and press. The event successfully raised close to $1000 through the silent auction and raffle, and a cheque was presented to Judy Tobe, Executive Director for Frontier College.

“Congratulations on a fantastic and successful Book & Magazine launch party! It was very inspiring to see today’s young publishing professionals who have so much dedication and enthusiasm for the publishing industry and for literacy.”
-Meredith Roberts, Manager, Special Events and Media Relations, Frontier College Foundation.

ON the DANFORTH began as a newsletter, and has grown into a quality glossy publication with an online counterpart, www.OntheDanforth.ca. The magazine is produced by a new group of students each year, and is constantly evolving to better serve the Danforth community. Publishing a community magazine is an invaluable learning experience for the students as they pursue careers in the publishing industry. The 2009 issues (spring and summer) are the largest to date, entirely due to the generosity and support of local Danforth small businesses. This free magazine will be delivered to select residences in the Danforth area, and can also be found in businesses along the Danforth.
