    A Marvel-ous Experience

Consistency is something to be proud of. Most people make plans to be consistent for a few weeks, a month, or even an entire year. Whatever the duration may be, you begin to see progress in the right direction. Now, imagine a movie studio that’s been consistently releasing high-quality movies every year for nearly a decade; quite a streak. That’s the case with Marvel Studios. They’ve released Blockbuster movies since 2010, and have built momentum for their storyline which was able to achieve the highest box office movie of all time—now placed in second with Avengers: Endgame. All that came to a halt with the rest of the world in…

    Watching Marvel Through WandaVision

For the first time since 2009, Marvel Studios had not released anything for an entire year. Coming off of such a huge success with Avengers: Endgame, everyone was excited for the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). They’ve planned the release of Black Widow — postponed until 2021 — which was meant to be a prequel to their current storyline. However, Marvel, which is owned by Disney, was able to get a bit more creative with their storytelling thanks to the steady expansion of Disney+ and started their first television series, WandaVision. Much like a lot of things Marvel brings to the forefront, the series started as a…

8 Shows to Binge Watch Over the Holidays

The winter break is coming and you finally have free time to catch up on TV shows. But what should you watch while your favourites are on their winter hiatus? The following shows are some of my top picks to dive into during this break: Shameless Each minute of every episode of Shameless contains its own bit of drama. This show focuses on Fiona and her siblings, showing how they make their lives work with questionable parents. It’s a quick series to catch up on, with only 12 episodes in each season. You’re going to want to catch up quickly since the US sixth season premieres on January 10th. The first…

    Latte Love on the Danforth

Greektown in Toronto’s east end is home to a lot of local, independent coffee shops. I set out to find some of my favourite places to grab a double-shot latte on my way to school, and I have listed my recommendations in the order I visited them. El Greco (968 Pape Ave.) El Greco is a quaint espresso & snack bar. They are a favourite for local football fans so they tend to have a football game on TV. They have one of the best prices for a latte at $3.50. Their espresso is moderately bold and they have a wide variety of pastries to choose from. They are also…

    Toronto Comicon’s Festivus Holiday Sale

BY SABRINA PIGNATARO Yesterday, Toronto ComiCon put on a small, one-day comic convention. For only $10 (and free for kids under 12), guests could enter the convention floor in Hall F of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre’s South Building. The “Festivus Holiday Sale” prides itself as the largest one-day comics show in Canada, with 2,500 guests in 2013. Unlike the massive fall event Fan Expo, the December convention is a lot more low-key, with fewer special guests, no panels, and a much smaller space. Fan Expo, on the other hand, takes up the entire South Building and part of the North Building. [pullquote]No convention would be complete without the presence…

The 6 Best Places to Find Marvel and DC Comics in East York

BY SABRINA PIGNATARO With more and more superhero movies in development, now is a good time to read up on the next group of characters to reach the big screen. Just last week, Marvel Studios confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing Doctor Strange in an upcoming film. The news comes at the heels of Marvel’s “Phase 3” announcements, which include the highly anticipated Black Panther and Captain Marvel films. With DC Entertainment also having just announced their film schedule for the next few years, there’s no better time than now for superhero enthusiast and new fans alike to start reading up on the source material for the upcoming films,…

Will the new Arrow spin-off be gone in a Flash?

BY REBECCA BOWSLAUGH DC superheroes are becoming a regular occurrence in my television lineup. Arrow, based on DC’s Green Arrow, is in its third season and has amassed a large (obsessed) following. Like Arrow, The Flash fights his local criminal element with the help of his technical (and emotional) support team. Unlike Arrow, who is just an incredibly fit and well-trained archer, The Flash is an honest to goodness superhero.[pullquote]The Flash promises to provide for our sensitive intellectual sides[/pullquote] Barry Allen (a.k.a. The Flash) was introduced in season two of Arrow, when he visits Starling City. In the new TV rendition, Barry returns from Starling and is struck by a…
