Why You Should Go See Eric Nam at the Danforth Music Hall

The Nam Behind the Music

Rihanna. Justin Bieber. Lorde. And now, Eric Nam joins the roster of world-class musicians to perform at the historic Danforth Music Hall. The next Canadian stop on Nam’s Before We Begin World Tour is right here in our own backyard on February 24th—great news for fans of K-pop! Whether you’re a fan already, or just want to learn more about K-pop, here are five things you should know about Eric Nam.

Surprise Stardom:

Nam’s original career as a business consultant for multinational finance companies came to an end after he posted a cover of girl group 2NE1’s song “Lonely” on YouTube that quickly went viral. He was invited to join the cast of Star Audition: Birth of a Great Star 2,a popular X Factor-style talent show in Korea, and made it all the way to the top five! He made his solo career debut within a year with the release of his EP, Cloud Nine.

Polyglot Popstar:

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Nam is fluent in both Korean and English. Bonus? He also speaks perfect Spanish, and conversational Mandarin. Nam puts his English and Korean skills to good use on his latest album, Before We Begin. His first fully English language album features a mix of original English songs and some translated versions of his Korean hits.

Smart Guy:

Before Nam became a K-pop artist, he went to Boston College and graduated with a degree in International Studies. He was offered a job as a strategy and operations consultant at Deloitte Consulting in New York City, but turned it down to pursue microfinancing in India. Brainy and talented? What’s not to love?

TV Personality:

As a talk show host, Nam has interviewed many Hollywood celebrities. From 2013 to 2016, Nam hosted the incredibly popular TV shows After School Club and its spinoff, The ASC After Show. These interactive shows for K-pop artists and fans broadcast in 188 countries and often trended #1 worldwide on Twitter. Nam continues to be the face of celebrity interviews in Korea—his role on MBC’s Section TV has him chatting with celebs like Robert Downey Jr., Amanda Seyfried, Matt Damon, and more!

Awards:

Nam not only has a winning personality—he has an awardwinning personality! In 2016 he was one of GQ Korea’s men of the year, and was one of Forbes’ 30 under 30 in Asia in 2017. He’s also referred to as “the nation’s oppa (older brother)” by the Korean entertainment industry—not bad for a Georgia boy!

Convinced? Intrigued? There are still a few tickets available for Eric Nam’s performance, but they’re going fast. Make sure to secure your spot to see this K-pop legend live and in concert, right here on the Danforth!
