Karen Brochu
Publisher
Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Karen Brochu is not only an expert on cold weather but she could probably teach us all a thing or two about multitasking. Her role as publisher of On The Danforth keeps her quite busy; she oversees the creation of not just one magazine, but one online and TWO print editions! Even among the chaos, Karen is always seen with a smile on her face. When asked what her favourite part of the job is, she says it is “being able to watch all the pieces of the magazine come together and seeing the various teams interact.”
Karen tells us more…
On The Danforth: If you had the chance to live to be 200 years old, would you? Why or why not?
Karen Brochu: No, I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t want to live that long without the people I love.
OTD: What cartoon character has a personality most similar to yours?
KB: Belle from Beauty and the Beast. We have a shared passion for books and a curiosity about the world around us.
OTD: If you could have three wishes come true, what would they be?
KB: 1) I would want to be able to teleport—I hate flying. 2) Unlimited shoes! 3) World peace. Is that corny?
OTD: Would you rather run into Jafar (Aladdin) or Scar (The Lion King) in a dark alley? Why?
KB: Jafar! Even though he can do magic, I definitely couldn’t take on a lion!
What does the future hold for Karen?
The role of publisher might have to take a backseat as Karen hopes to gain a career in publicity or marketing after Centennial.
