Don’t Run Your Feet into the Ground

How shoes contribute to your head-to-toe health BY ANISSA STAMBOULI   A person’s confidence is reflected in the way that they carry themselves. Matching shoes to a style of life is very important, but so is matching shoes to a pair of feet. Whether you’re athletic, chic, or casual, having the proper shoe can make all the difference in your physical well-being and performance. “Get your shoe measured properly by an expert. We spend so much time in our shoes that the wrong fit will kill your day,” wrote Running Room is a great place to have your feet evaluated. By observing the way you walk and the arch of…

Why Can’t You be Happy for Me?

Why my friends stopped finding me interesting after I fell in love: BY LAURA MCREYNOLDS “Do you fight often?” was the first question my friend asked me about my boyfriend. It was the first time I had seen her in years, and we were meeting for coffee. I felt a familiar panic— lie or tell the truth. I find myself telling her about an irrelevant spat we had, making the story angrier and more dramatic than it truly was. I did this because I didn’t want to face the familiar glazed expression, the feigned enthusiasm followed by silence that follows when I tell the truth— I am happy with my…

    Skyrim— A Revolutionary RPG

BY LAURA MCREYNOLDS Skyrim is a revolutionary open-world Role-Playing Game (RPG). Released in late 2011, it is the fifth instalment of the Elder Scrolls series, developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The graphics of Skyrim far surpass that of its most recent predecessor, Oblivion, released in 2006. Notably, Skyrim provides a more fluid gaming experience than the previous Elder Scrolls games because it no longer requires the player choose a character class when setting up their character, which made the gameplay too rigid from an early point in the game. As with previous Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim is based in the fictional continent of Tamriel, with…

    New Kid on the Block

From country mouse to city slicker BY JENNY WILSON   I always imagined my life would be like Sex and the City. Of course, I’ve never actually seen a full episode, but from what I do know, it looks like the sweet life. I wanted to be the lady strutting through the city, wearing four-inch Louis Vuitton pumps; I wanted to go to lunch with handsome, intelligent men and have fancy cocktails with my girlfriends. But as of two months ago I was still living in my parents house on the farm where I grew up. It’s about as far from the high city life as you can get—but I…

Will the new Arrow spin-off be gone in a Flash?

BY REBECCA BOWSLAUGH DC superheroes are becoming a regular occurrence in my television lineup. Arrow, based on DC’s Green Arrow, is in its third season and has amassed a large (obsessed) following. Like Arrow, The Flash fights his local criminal element with the help of his technical (and emotional) support team. Unlike Arrow, who is just an incredibly fit and well-trained archer, The Flash is an honest to goodness superhero.[pullquote]The Flash promises to provide for our sensitive intellectual sides[/pullquote] Barry Allen (a.k.a. The Flash) was introduced in season two of Arrow, when he visits Starling City. In the new TV rendition, Barry returns from Starling and is struck by a…

    Gone Girl: Adapting to Success

BY REBECCA BROWN The film adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl by director David Fincher is a thrilling and eery representation of an incredible novel. Raking in over $136 million at the box office, this blockbuster has earned its spot as one of the top thrillers of 2014. The film succeeds in staying remarkably close to the book’s original plot, a pleasant change compared to many other book-to-screen adaptations, as author Gillian Flynn was given the rare opportunity to write the screenplay herself. Ben Affleck stars as Nick Dunne, delivering a believable representation of a brooding character you either love or hate. Alongside Affleck, Rosamund Pike stars as wife Amy…

    Plan, Execute, Measure

A Guide to Social Networking for Small Businesses BY LAURA McREYNOLDS   For small businesses, it can be difficult to maintain an online presence.  Although most small businesses lack a dedicated communications team, Chris Conrath, a teacher in Centennial College’s Corporate Communications program, explains that small businesses maintain an advantage over corporations because they are part of a community. So how can you exercise this advantage in your business? 1. Plan The first step in any social media endeavour is to plan. The purpose of having a presence on social media is to bring customers in to your store. To do this, set goals for what you hope to achieve. How…
